1. Top-End Misfires Under Heavy Load
It takes significantly more voltage to jump a spark plug gap in a cylinder packed with high boost or heavily compressed air-fuel mixtures. The voltage needed to create an electrical arc (breakdown voltage) across the spark plug gap follows Paschen’s law. It depends on the gas pressure and the gap distance. Higher pressure increases the density of gas molecules between the electrodes, making it harder for electrons to accelerate and ionize the mixture enough to form a spark. If your spark plug wires are degrading, they might perform perfectly fine while you’re idling. However, once you open the throttle and cylinder pressures spike, a weak wire won't be able to deliver the required energy.
This results in a high-RPM misfire, a loss of power, and a compromised run. If your engine stumbles only when you're heavily on the throttle, your wires might be creating a bottleneck in your ignition system.
2. EMI Havoc in Your EFI System or Digital Dash

4. Heat Degradation and Brittle Jackets
